The Convocation of Academicians was held by Academia Sinica from July 5-8, 2010 at the Center of Academic Activities and the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. 195 Academicians from Taiwan and abroad attended the Convocation. This year, total of 18 new Academicians and 5 Honorary Academicians were elected. One of NSRRC’s Board of Trustee, Prof. Shih-Lin Chang, and Prof. Yu Wang of National Taiwan University were elected as the 2010 Academicians.
Both Prof. Chang and Wang are users of NSRRC and have been using our facility and lightsource to facilitate their researches for a long time. All staff at NSRRC is proud of this great honor. Prof. Chang’s expertise in diffraction physics, condense matter physics, and crystallography research has produced outstanding research results. In 2009, his proposal, entitled “Probing Static and Dynamic Atomic Structures by Diffraction and Scattering of Ultrahigh Spatial and Temporal Coherent X-rays”, has been selected by NSC as one of the Academic Summit Program. Prof. Wang has been using NSRRC and SPring-8 light sources in recent years to perform X-ray diffraction and absorption spectroscopy studies and her findings obtained by using synchrotron light sources have also been published on internationally well-known journals. In addition, she is also remarkable for her specialty in the research of the Electron density distribution and chemical bond, spin crossover and light induced electronic spin state trapping (LIESST), and X-ray crystallography. Both Prof. Chang and Prof. Wang received the unanimous affirmation by the academic and scientific community.
Currently, Prof. Yu Wang also serves as the Executive Secretary of NSRRC’s Board of Trustee. In addition, Prof. Chang will temporarily transfer from National Tsing Hua University to take up the post of NSRRC director beginning August 1st, 2010.
