Through the untiring efforts of the project team members, the Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) project has finally completed the assessment of its civil construction contractors on November 17. Kedge Construction Co., Ltd. (Kedge) won the bid and the contract signing ceremony, hosted by Dr. Keng S. Liang, Director of NSRRC and Mr. Peace Hwang, President of Kedge, was held on December 8 at NSRRC. Both the design team, J.J Pan Parteners Architects & Planners and the TPS team participated in this epoch-making moment.
During the bidding process of the Taiwan Photon Source, several competitive bidders were evaluated rigorously by the review committee. Finally, Kedge won the bid and also obtained the opportunity to create the scientific research miracle with NSRRC. The total floor area of this project amounts to 53,000 m2 and with 950 days of construction time, it is expected to be completed in July of 2012. The TPS is a 3 billion electron-volts electron energy ring type facilities with 518 meter circumference. In order to keep the valuable green land of present location and to minimize the number of trees to be cut down, the TPS team pays a great effort to design the facilities with environmental protection and energy- conservation concepts.
In the future, TPS will become one of the brightest light source facilities in the world. It can help to create the worldwide competitive advantage in nano and life sciences and also to strengthen the science foundation of our country. NSRRC will continue to serve the scientific community, challenge for novel and cutting-edge research, and make a Taiwan science research miracle in the 21st century.
